Liquid Silicone Rubber Molding

Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) molding is a form of injection molding. Liquid silicone rubber is first injected into the mold, then the liquid is heated to solidify, cooled and removed from the mold.

The LSR mold itself is CNC machined so the mold captures all design details and can withstand the extreme temperatures of the molding process. This mold can be reused to make parts.

LSR is a thermoset polymer, so once the liquid forms and cures, the part is permanently shaped. Advantages of LSR molding include:

• Universal appeal across industries

• Easily create final prototypes for testing and experimentation

• Durability

• Chemical resistance

• Temperature resistance

• Biocompatibility

• easy to sterilize

• Insulation properties

Rubber Compression Molding

Compression molding uses uncured rubber that has been preformed into a controlled shape, such as a disc. The mold encapsulates the workpiece and compresses it with high pressure between two plates. High temperature and pressure vulcanize the rubber to cure the part. The pins automatically eject the workpiece from the die, speeding up production runs.

Advantages of rubber compression molding include:

• High-precision final product with virtually no flash for fast delivery

• Less material waste, resulting in cost savings

• Simpler, cheaper and faster tools

• Compatible with many materials including natural rubber, silicone, Viton, EPDM, BUNA, neoprene

Typical applications for rubber and silicone parts

Both processes create a high-quality end product. Depending on the exact nature of the product and the size of the run, LSR or rubber compression may be the right choice. LSR products are ideal for:

• Bridge tool

• Functional prototype

• Commissioning and small batch production

• Mass production

This silicone molding process produces parts that are suitable for use in every major industry and operate safely in extreme conditions. Silicones can be used to make parts such as gaskets, valves, medical device components, and more. Liquid silicone rubber molding technology gives them more flexibility at a lower overall cost when companies try out new products. We can also comply with military specifications in rigorous military and defense applications, or create custom silicone extrusions for any application.

Rubber compression molding can create highly accurate seals, O-rings, and parts that help protect closed systems. Applications for compressed rubber parts include:

• Fuel, electrical and HVAC systems

• Automotive systems

• Sterile rubber hoses for food and beverage applications

• Hydraulic and pneumatic seals
